Archives of Federation is founded in 1994, by Ministries and other institutions of state administration Act ("Službene novine", No 2/94), as state administrative organisation. Article 22 of the same Act determined that Archives' activities are professional and other activities in concern with: registration, arrangement, archival processing, preservation and use of all archives and current records; proposing methodological guidelines, standards and regulations for archival service; development of archival service in Federation; professional inspection of preservation of current records and archives and selection of archives from current records; issuing decrees and other public documents about facts and proofs contained in archives which Archives keeps; professional education of archival employeers and scientific-research and publishing and international archival cooperation.
Archives of Federation started with activities on July 1st 1997, when The Government of Federation had elect Director and Vice-Director, and some of professional employeers.
Today, mandates of Archives of Federation is regulated by Federal ministries and other institutions of federal administration Act ("Službene novine", No 19/03). Article 27. determined that Archives of Federation is independent federal institution.
Archives of Federation is competent for archives and current records created through activities of The Parliament of Federation, The President and The Vice-President of Federation, The Government of Federation, federal administrative agencies, federal institutions, other federal institutions, citizen socities and other corporate bodies organized on federal level.
After disposing, duties of Archives are arrangement, archival processing, making of finding aids, publishing of archives, making archives availible for use, organisation of archival exhibitions. Archives undertakes tehnical and technological measures for preservation of archives and enables the using of archives.
